چکیده

This paper describes a technique that identifies an ieee 802.11 frame’s source network interface card through passive radio-frequency analysis. Our approach, called paradis, leverages minute imperfections of transmitter hardware that are acquired at manufacture and are present even in otherwise identical nics. These imperfections are transmitterspecific and manifest themselves as artifacts of the emitted signals. We measure artifacts of individual wireless frames in the modulation domain, identify a suite of differentiating features, and apply efficient 802.11-specific machine-learning based classification techniques to achieve significantly higher degrees of accuracy than prior best known schemes. We experimentally demonstrate effectiveness of paradis in differentiating between more than a hundred 100 identical ieee 802.11 nics, with an accuracy in excess of 99.99%. Our results also show that the accuracy of paradis is resilient against ambient noise and changing characteristics of the wireless channel.

Active Attacks Against Modulation-based Radiometric Identification

Radiometric identification is a recently coined term that describes a broad category of techniques for determining the identity of a wireless device based on unique characteristics of its transmitted signal that result from imperfections and variances in the device’s manufacturing processes. Existing techniques are based on extracting and classifying features from either the transient portion o...

Radiometric Performance Requirements for Optimal Atmospheric Processing of Hyperspectral Imagery

The radiometric performance of an hyperspectral sensor is limited due to physical constraints such as quantization, noise levels, spectral resolutions, and calibration accuracy. During the definition phase of a hyperspectral instrument, these numbers have to be defined based on scientific requirements for atmospheric correction methods to be applied and with respect to a variety of hyperspectra...

Evaluation of the Suitability of Polarimetric Scattering and Emissivity Models with Scene Generation Software

Software based polarimetric image generation models and hardware based infrared scene projectors commonly utilize analytical forms of polarized bi-directional reflectance distribution function and emission models. Many of these models are based in first principles physical concepts, but in practice are configured as least error fits to measured signatures. The resulting analytical model may wel...
